In Photos: Arbor Day Celebration at Council Meeting
Missed the City Council Meeting? Patch has the highlights in pictures.
Some brief highlights of Thursday's :
- Dozens of children and their parents packed Conference Room One for the meeting; many children brought with them their Arbor Day posters.
- The Acworth Achiever Mentoring and After School Program Participants presented Leonard C. Hall, Jr., a Tuskegee Airman, with a model of a p-51 "Mustang" in Tuskegee Airmen colors in honor of his service. Mayor Tommy Allegood also read a proclamation on behalf of the city that declared February 17 "Leonard Hall Day".
- The winners of the Arbor Day Poster Contest were featured in a PowerPoint presentation and given a group shot in front of the Board's desk.
- Acworth has been a USA Tree City for 10 years and is the only city in Cobb County with a Tree Commission.
- The consent agenda passed unanimously.
- During Public Comment, citizens voiced concerns about the city's future responses to inclement weather, requesting the city purchase a snow plow and prevent ice accumulation on the sidewalks.
- Additionally, merchants and the Board of Aldermen discussed merchant parking along Main Street.
