Pennies With Purpose 4th Annual Family & Friends Day to Benefit Local Cancer Patients

The Pennies With Purpose 4th Annual Family & Friends Fun Day will take place Sunday, Sept. 7, 12-4 p.m., at Laurel Park in Marietta. The annual fundraiser celebrates the lives of cancer patients and their caregivers.

Pennies With Purpose is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which was started by staff at the Georgia Cancer Specialists’ (GCS) Marietta clinic to change lives “one penny at a time.” GCS, affiliated with the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, provides care in 26 locations in Metro Atlanta, North and Central Georgia through approximately 160,000 patient visits annually. Throughout the year, Pennies With Purpose hosts events to raise money to help with co-pays, prescriptions, food and transportation for GCS patients who cannot afford them. Since its inception, the organization has helped more than 300 patients.

“Unfortunately, cancer can affect anyone and pays no attention to a person’s socio-economic status,” said Robin Thomas, CPhT, infusion assistant, Georgia Cancer Specialists, and Pennies with Purpose founder. “I am so proud of the participation by my colleagues and the many volunteers who help Pennies With Purpose continue to provide financial relief for our cancer patients.”

The 4th Annual Family & Friends Fun Day will include a picnic, kickball tournament, tug-of-war, moon walk, cake walk, face painting and much more. A balloon release will recognize patients currently fighting cancer and the ones who’ve lost the battle.

The event is free to attend. However, food (hot dogs, hamburgers and more) and some games will have a small fee. All proceeds benefit Pennies With Purpose. Over the last three years, the annual Family & Friends Fun Day has raised more than $3,700.
