Police: Cobb Church CFO Allegedly Pocketed More than $93,000

Gwendolyn Hawthorne has been accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a Powder Springs church and using the money for herself.

The former chief financial officer of a Cobb County church has been accused of stealing more than $90,000 from her employer to pay for bills and gambling expenses, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The AJC, quoting an arrest warrant, says that Gwendolyn Hawthorne, 61, of Marietta, made over 900 fraudulent transactions between March 2007 and February 2014 while employed at Crown of Life Community Baptist Church in Powder Springs. Through these transactions, Hawthorne allegedly stole $93,744.25. Hawthorne allegedly concealed the thefts by falsifying the church’s budget reports, the warrant states.
