CORRECTION: Suspected Electronics Thieves Stopped in Acworth

Nearly $2,000 of pilfered electronics were discovered in the suspects' van, police said.

CORRECTION (10:09 p.m.): The Atlanta Journal-Constitution originally reported that $1.7 million worth of electronics were stolen by thieves who were stopped by Acworth police. In actuality, the amount of stolen merchandise totals up to $1,700.

ORIGINAL STORY (1:09 p.m.): An observant former Cobb County police officer helped Acworth police catch three electronics thieves who had hit an area store on Thursday, authorities said.

Acworth police Capt. Mark Cheatham told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the retired officer noticed a suspicious man and woman at the Acworth Best Buy and notified his currently-serving brethren while following the suspects’ van. When officers arrived, they discovered the van had $1,700 in stolen electronics inside and $7,000 in cash.

Police said they also found sophisticated equipment that let the thieves pass through the alarm system of a store without being detected. The suspects also had a device that obscured the license plate of their van.

Krzysztof Dolinski 39, Marzena Waskowska 46, and Jan Jodlowski, 51 were arrested and charged with shoplifting, possession of tools to commit crimes, and trespassing. Each suspect presented a Canadian passport to police. The trio were denied bond and may be deported.

Investigators are working to link the three to other thefts of electronics.
