ALPHARETTA, GA -- Alpharetta police detectives have arrested three men in connection to the April shooting death of a resident at a townhome.

Charged with felony murder in the killing of 21-year-old Kadarius Cortez Medlock are Michael Jamar Dawson of Lithonia, Dontravious Mahone of Riverdale and Decatur resident Jemal Gines.

Those Alpharetta investigators were assisted by the Atlanta Fugitive Squad, Clayton County SWAT Team and DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad. The arrests were made without incident.

Officers were dispatched to the Preserve at Academy on Wade Creek Road community around 9:50 a.m. April 21 in response to a 911 caller reporting a gunshot in the area.

Police units arrived on the scene and met with the caller, who pointed towards the location where the gunshot possibly originated.

Officers secured the area, and noticed the front door to townhome 111 was open. Once they entered the home, officers found Medlock "lying on the floor inside the residence," the agency said. Medlock was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives immediately launched a homicide investigation that, following hundreds of hours of police work, led to the arrests made Monday evening.

“The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is grateful to the assisting law enforcement agencies,” said Alpharetta Public Safety Director Gary D. George. “Their actions and support were invaluable during the course of the investigation and the arrest of these suspects.”
