Alpharetta Expands Outdoor Recreation Program Lineup
Courses include wilderness first aid, tree climbing and how to ride a bike for kids.

And this year, the Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department is excited to offer additional programs in its outdoor curriculum.

Wilderness First Aid: a hands-on training course, designed to meet the needs of all outdoor enthusiasts. Prepare for the unexpected and learn how to provide care for folks who become ill or injured in remote locations. Two-day course includes classroom presentations and real outdoor scenarios.
Come prepared to get wet, muddy, cold or hot. Meets 8 a.m to 5 p.m. daily at Wills Park baseball office. Two-day session dates: Oct. 15-16, Oct. 24-25, Nov. 14-15, Nov. 23-24, or Dec. 20-21. Cost: $225 residents; $337.50 non-residents. Optional: CPR certification; add $30/person. Course open to adults and teens (age 15+).
How to Ride a Bike for Kids: is your little tyke ready to learn to ride a bike? Let the experts from REI teach them how! Class will be in the Wills Park parking lot, behind the city pool, on a safe, flat, contained area to instill confidence and facilitate fun. Bring a bike, helmet and water bottle. Fall session held 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 8. Cost: $45 residents; $67.50 non-residents. Designed for ages 4-11.
Recreational Tree Climbing remains an outdoor favorite at Wills Park, and monthly sessions continue through November. Learn a fun, safe way to ascend a tree with rope and harness system in this introductory climbing course, an adventurous experience for all ages and abilities. Cost: $28 residents; $42 non-residents. Private tree climbing parties can also be booked for birthdays, scout troops, group functions, family reunions, or even team-building.
