Alpharetta Offers Free Fall Planting Workshop

The workshop, scheduled for Oct. 8, will cover topics such as planting trees, preparing soil for ornamentals, mulching and watering.

With area temperatures beginning to cool, now is the perfect time for residents to turn their thoughts towards the addition of shrubs and trees to their yards.

Alpharetta residents can take advantage of a free workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 8 to help make their fall landscaping plans. The program will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Alpharetta Public Works Department, located at 1790 Hembree Road.

This free class, conducted by the UGA/Fulton County Cooperative Extension and the North Fulton Master Gardeners, will cover:

• Fertilizing

“While many of us get energized to improve our yards and gardens in the spring, fall is the best time in Georgia to plant — and move — shrubs and trees as well as prepare soil for next year’s plantings,” the city said in its press release. “Our clay soil is much easier to work with in the fall and most shrubs and trees will do better when they have the opportunity to get established over the winter.”
