Black Bear Spotted Near Milton Subdivision

The bear was seen around the Estates at Hickory Mill neighborhood near Hickory Flat Road.

The Milton Police Department on Saturday reported they were notified of a black bear sighting near a subdivision off Hickory Flat Road.

The agency said on its Facebook page that the bear was seen around the Estates at Hickory Mill neighborhood. With the report of the sighting, the agency offered these tips to residents if they were to cross paths with a black bear:

  • Call 911 immediately;
  • Do not try to approach or feed the bears;
  • Keep children and pets from approaching;
  • Do not surround or corner a bear; give them plenty of space.
  • Do not try to run from a bear – back slowly away and make lots of noise.

Residents can also contact the state’s Wildlife Resources Division Game Management Office at 770-918-6416 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thorugh Friday. If it’s after hours, contact the State Operations Center at 800-241-4113.

This latest report comes on the heels of a black bear seen wandering around Dunwoody near Dunwoody Club Drive and Mill Shire Lane. In late April, a driver struck and killed a black bear on S.R. 92 near Settlement Drive in southwest Cherokee County.
