Cambridge High School Unveils Inaugural Homecoming JamBEARee

On Monday, September 9, Milton residents came together loud and proud to celebrate the Inaugural Cambridge High School JamBEARee and backyard bash. The event, which began with a parade and ended with fun, festival-type activities for guests of all ages, provided a perfect kickoff for the school’s homecoming week activities. The event was held at the high school from 5-8 p.m. and it's estimated that more than 700 guests were in attendance.

The JamBEARee was created within a tight timeframe by a handful of Cambridge moms whose children are involved in varying activities at the school. With support from CHS Principal Ashley Agans, as well as the City of Milton, plans began in earnest about four weeks ago and culminated with more than 35 clubs, teams, and community groups all registering to participate in the mile-long parade and backyard tailgate.

Shelley Massey, a Cambridge mom of four and planning committee member commented, “The overwhelming positive response to the JamBEARee has left us speechless and so grateful. While the official purpose was to celebrate the kickoff of Homecoming week, it was also very much about community. To see so many smiles on so many faces with Cambridge love coming from so many places is something I won’t ever forget. The enthusiasm in the air was palpable!”

Parade participants were invited to design floats, trailers, walk, march, ride in golf carts, bicycles, etc. The route began near Stonecreek Church and processed by the school’s baseball and football fields, the vet med building, prior to turning onto Cogburn and Bethany Bend Roads before returning to the high school. Tons of candy and soft swag items were tossed to the hundreds of spectators who lined the parade route cheering for all who participated. The Cambridge High School Drama Club won the spirit trophy for “Best Decorated Float” and will hold onto that award until next year, when they pass it onto the new winner.

When asked about her reaction to the Inaugural JamBEARee, Cambridge High School Principal Ashley Agans stated, “I am completely overwhelmed with gratitude for our community and how they showed up to support our Bears. Our students are going to remember this event as a highlight of their high school experience. It’s something they are going to want their children to experience in the future.”

She continued, “I can’t thank the Bear Moms enough who pulled an event of this magnitude together in record time. I was just so happy to see all our prior Bears, current Bears and future Bears (and their families) cheering along the parade route, enjoying time spent together. I truly appreciate that I get the opportunity to serve this amazing community.”

As plans began to form for the JamBEARee, committee members were incredibly focused on ensuring that the event was inclusive to all. Every school group, club, athletic team, etc. was invited, as were dozens of feeder programs and community groups filled with future Bears. The goal was simple: to infuse a sense of school and community pride, not only among current students, but also among future students and families as well.

The Inaugural CHS JamBEARee was hosted by the Cambridge Athletic Association and was sponsored by several local businesses. Ceviche served as Presenting Sponsor; The Beauty Barn was the Event Sponsor and Business Sponsors included Jamison Wealth Management, Dunkin, Truck and Tap, Krazy Kravings,PlaySport Atlanta, Susan Feddersen Realty, and Vintage Pizzeria.
