Dominion Arts Foundation to Host Second Annual Summer Arts Intensive

The Dominion Arts Foundation (DAF) will partner with the Southwest Arts Center in the City of South Fulton to host the Second Annual Performing and Visual Arts Summer Intensive Training Program, July 5 – July 22, 2023. The purpose of this program is to provide training, mentorship, and networking opportunities to high school students (grades 9-12) who are interested in furthering their core artistic skills and broadening into more advanced areas of artistic study.

The camp, which costs $300 per participant, will be held Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Southwest Arts Center. There are five core areas of study: dance, drama, vocal music, instrumental music, and visual arts. Interested participants can register by logging onto https://dominionarts.org/. Even though the camp is being offered at a substantial discount (thanks to grant support), a limited number of needs-based scholarships will be available.

Esteemed Producer and Director, Robert John Connor, created the Dominion Arts Foundation in 2016 to help address an alarming gap in the number of professional training opportunities available for black and brown youth. “There is a wealth of talent here in our great city of Atlanta, but far too many young adults never get to fully realize their potential. Either the training doesn’t exist or, if it does, it’s cost prohibitive for students who yearn for a future in the arts and entertainment industries. The fact that today only six percent of Hollywood directors are Black is unacceptable. We intend to change this reality by offering valuable training, mentorship, and internship opportunities at low cost/no cost to those who want to break into the industry but lack the resources or contacts to do so.”
