Environmental Grants Awarded To 3 Milton Elementary Schools
The City of Milton awarded environmental grants to three elementary schools to go toward a greenhouse, vegetable garden and native plants.
MILTON, GA — Adding native plants. Maintaining a greenhouse. And producing pounds and pounds of vegetables.
The City of Milton is supporting all these things and more at three local elementary schools, part of its annual awarding of Environmental Education Grants to support green efforts that impact and educate Milton students.
“All of these schools have exciting things going on,” said City of Milton Conservation Project Manager Teresa Stickels, who presented the grants last week. “And these projects will offer opportunities for their students to learn more about and interact with the environment.”

The city awards these small grants annually to Milton-based public schools that apply with proposals to reach large numbers of students. This year’s recipients are:
- Crabapple Crossing Elementary School, which plans to rejuvenate a space outside the school with native plants and flowers, as well as a restore a pavilion that can function as an outdoor classroom space
- Cogburn Woods Elementary, supporting an agricultural program for 2nd through 5th graders that includes a chicken coop, raised plant beds and a greenhouse (which is where the grant money will be targeted)
- Birmingham Falls Elementary, to purchase supplies to maintain a garden that has produced over 600 pounds of fresh vegetables donated to local food banks
This is one of several efforts spearheaded by the city to educate and bolster a healthy natural environment for Milton residents, young and old. To learn more, go online.
