Fulton Science Academy Recognized as a "Certified Wildlife Habitat" by the National Wildlife Federation

The National Wildlife Federation has named Fulton Science Academy a Certified Wildlife Habitat.

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF), America's largest wildlife conservation and education organization, has named Fulton Science Academy as a "Certified Wildlife Habitat" site through its Garden for Wildlife Program.

NWF celebrates efforts to create a garden that improves habitat for birds, butterflies, frogs, and other wildlife by providing essential elements needed by all wildlife - natural food sources, clean water, cover, and places to raise young.

This award was made possible through work produced by FSA's new Environmental Preservation Club. The club was formed in January 2017 thanks to a generous donation from the Novak Family Foundation. Fifth grader, Aidan Novak, photographed above, is the club's founder and is a very active participant.

FSA's Environmental Club Advisor, Sharon Butler, commented, "I love working with this group; the kids love nature and are being raised by wonderful families who are teaching them how important it is to help conserve the ecosystem. The club's goal is to encourage responsible land use and to help pollinators and other wildlife thrive here on FSA's beautiful grounds."

Currently, the FSA's Environmental Preservation Club is deep in the throes of several projects, including analysis of how to safely reduce the population of mosquito larvae that reside in the campus pond. They also will work closely with campus architects to preserve green space during the campus expansion and will assist with the construction and implementation of FSA's first greenhouse, which the school hopes to unveil in August 2017 (permits are pending).
