ICYMI: Alpharetta Releases Proposed Bond Referendum Projects

The referendum will be on the May 24 ballot and if approved, could also fund sidewalk improvements and Wills Park pool renovations.

Alpharetta, GA -- On May 24, the city of Alpharetta will asks its citizens whether they want to fund a series of public improvement projects through the issuance of general obligation bonds.

Bonds are used by local governments to borrow money, and that bond debt is paid with tax dollars.

It is important to note that, because of the city’s conservative financial management, the bonds as currently proposed would not result in a tax increase, the city states.

Listed below are the projects currently proposed to be funded by the bonds if voters approve the May 24 referendum.

You can click on the project link to learn more about the initiatives. The dollar values shown with each project reflect the total dollars from the bond that would be allocated towards that project.

The Alpharetta City Council has been holding a series of meetings and open house to give citizens a chance to learn more about and weigh in on the upcoming referendum and proposed projects.

Upcoming meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Alpharetta City Hall on the following dates:

  • Feb. 1 City Council meeting (bond projects will be an agenda topic and the floor opened for public comment).
  • Feb. 3: open house at City Hall for purpose of providing informal setting for citizens to learn about the proposed projects, pose questions and provide comment/feedback.
  • Feb. 9: City Council meeting (bond projects will be an agenda topic and the floor opened for public comment). Council will consider first reading of the ordinance calling for the bond referendum and stating the form of the ballot question.
  • Feb. 15: City Council meeting (bond projects will be an agenda topic and the floor opened for public comment). Council will consider second reading of the ordinance calling for the bond referendum and stating the form of the ballot question.
