Instead of focusing on a single fix, the Legacy Milton Initiative is a ”comprehensive, long-term vision with policies, incentives and ideas to help conserve the look and feel of Milton,” the city said in a press release.

“At the beginning of the Conservation Subdivision Ordinance discussion in Milton, it became apparent that conservation in Milton is much more than a one-size-fits-all solution,” Lockwood said.

The Legacy Milton Initiative includes a number of conservation options, including the possibility for a green space bond voted on by citizens, potential impact fees on new developments and credits to incentivize larger lot sizes.

“I, along with the city council and support from our city staff, want to be able to leave a legacy and make a difference in Milton for future generations long after we are gone,” the mayor added.

Residents, land and business owners and those hoping to one day live in Milton are all needed for the Initiative to succeed. It will be discussed at future work sessions to ensure the public’s desires are heard and incorporated into any plan moving forward, the city said.
