The word compost means to put together.

When we compost, we combine food scraps, yard waste, newspaper and other materials and we allow them to decompose into nutrients that enrich the soil.

Gardeners call compost “black gold” because it is so rich in nutrients. This earth-friendly activity recycles some foods and yard waste, improves the quality of your garden soil and helps to protect the quality of the water in our streams and lakes. It’s also a fun, easy and inexpensive activity that your whole family can enjoy doing together.

The University of Georgia/Fulton County Cooperative Extension Service and the North Fulton Master Gardeners will conduct the workshop and give you all the information you need to begin making compost at home.

To pre-register for this class, call (678) 297-6200.
