Liberty Tree planted at Barrington Hall, Roswell GA by the SAR / DAR

On Sunday April 28, 2024 the SAR Piedmont Chapter, DAR Martha Stewart Bulloch Chapter and the City of Roswell held a ceremony for the dedication of the Liberty Tree planted at Barrington Hall in Roswell, GA. in honor of the United States of America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026 and for the sacrifice of our patriots and veterans that won us our freedom.

The Liberty Tree was a famous Elm Tree that stood in Boston near Boston Common, in the years before the American Revolution. In 1765, colonists in Boston staged the first act of defiance against Stamp Act that the British government imposed on them at the tree. The tree became a rallying point for the growing resistance to the rule of Britain over the American Colonies. British Soldiers were sent in to Boston to put down the rebellious colonists and in August 1775 they were tired of these rallies around the Tree, so they ordered the Liberty Tree to be cut down and used it for firewood.

The Sons of the American Revolution goal is to plant 250 Liberty Trees, one in each of our 50 states and suggesting planting them in a county or city named after a Patriot.

The Barrington Hall ceremony had a very large turnout, including:

• The City of Roswell was well represented by Steven Malone (Director, Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Dept.), Mayor Pro Temp Will Morthland, City Council member Lee Hills, City Council member Christine Hall, and Christopher Durkee (Roswell Horticulturalist & Landscape Architect).
• The Piedmont Chapter SAR was represented by President Stacey McCarver, Past President Ron Redner (National Liberty Tree Project Chair), Past President George Thurmond, Past President Rick Reese, Jr., Vice-President Rick Reese, III, Color Guard Commander John Wassell, GASSAR Flag Respect Chair Craig Benton along with chapter members Will Morthland, and David Jimenez.
• Members of the Martha Stewart Bulloch Chapter DAR including Regent Sue Gilbert, Vice-Regent Cynthia Waskowski, Catherine Jimenez, Linda Reese, Beth Wassell, and many others.
• Members of the Martha Stewart Bulloch CAR represented by Sr, President Catherine Jimenez, Chapter President David Jimenez (also NSCAR Librarian), and many other chapter members.
• Many family members and friends.

This Liberty Tree was sponsored by the Reese Family and dedicated to the Martha Stewart Bulloch DAR.
