Liberty Tree planted at Bulloch Hall, Roswell Georgia

Members of Sons of the American Revolution, Piedmont Chapter and Roswell City Council on February 17, 2024 planted a Liberty Tree in honor of the United States of America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026 and for the sacrifice of our patriots and veterans that won us our freedom.

They planted the Liberty Tree at Bulloch Hall, Roswell, GA the home of “Mittie” Bulloch Roosevelt and the mother of our 26th US President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt Jr. whose ancestors were Patriotic who fought in the American Revolution and was a SAR member.

The Liberty Tree was a famous Elm Tree that stood in Boston near Boston Common, in the years before the American Revolution. In 1765, colonists in Boston staged the first act of defiance against Stamp Act that the British government imposed on them at the tree. The tree became a rallying point for the growing resistance to the rule of Britain over the American Colonies. British Soldiers were sent in to Boston to put down the rebellious colonists and in August 1775 they were tired of these rallies around the Tree, so they ordered the Liberty Tree to be cut down and used it for firewood.

The Sons of the American Revolution goal is 250 Liberty Tree, one in each of our 50 states and suggesting planting them in a county or city named after a Patriot. Each of the Liberty Tree’s we plant has a sponsor and the Bulloch Hall sponsor is the Rick Reese Family.
