Major Change Coming To Alpharetta Intersection (UPDATED)
Construction will begin March 26 on Devore Road at S.R. 9 to change the intersection to a right-in, right-out-only layout.

ALPHARETTA, GA — The city of Alpharetta will soon begin a project that would make a significant change to one of its intersections. Weather permitting, construction will kick off Monday, March 26 to revamp the Devore Road intersection with S.R. 9.
The project, the city of Alpharetta said, will change the intersection to a right-in, right-out-only layout. By eliminating left-turning movements from and to Devore Road, the city contends this will remove the cause of a majority of traffic crashes at the intersection (For more news like this, find your local Patch here. “The Devore Road intersection has seen an increasing number of vehicle crashes over the past several months,” stated Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta’s director of Public Works. “Nearly all of those incidents have involved a motorist attempting to make a left turn from Devore Road onto State Route 9 or onto Devore from State Route 9. Eliminating those left turn movements will significantly improve public safety and prevent dangerous T-bone crashes.”

However, residents should note this is not exactly set in stone. The city notes this change is temporary until a traffic signal is installed "part of the redevelopment of an adjoining property or as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s State Route 9 Improvement Project." Those plans, Sewczwicz said, include creating a four-way, signalized intersection by aligning Roswell Street with Devore Road.
Variable message boards will be put in place next week to inform motorists of the upcoming change.

“We recognize that temporarily eliminating left turns at Devore Road will be an inconvenience to many motorists, but a little inconvenience is a small price to pay so that we can prevent vehicle crashes and injuries," Sewczwicz added.
