Milton, Cambridge Lacrosse Partner To Help Hurricane Harvey Victims

The city will host a collection drive on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Bell Memorial Park. A future event could be organized for Hurricane Irma.

MILTON, GA -- The city of Milton is teaming up with Cambridge Youth Lacrosse and Dignity Memorial in their community efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

"We heard that our friends with Cambridge lacrosse were organizing donations to help Houston-area residents at the same time we were considering ways we might help a fellow city," said Milton Parks and Recreation Director Jim Cregge. "There's strength in numbers so we thought why not get the entire city involved."

The city will serve as a host location for a day-long donation drive during opening day this Saturday, Sept. 9 at Bell Memorial Park from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Detailed donation and drop-off instructions are available below (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Cambridge Youth Lacrosse Board member Eric Albro states the following items are being requested for this relief effort:

  • Blankets
  • Clothing
  • Toiletries
  • Non-perishable foods
  • Pet food
  • Cash donations (donations collected by Cambridge Youth Lacrosse, with 100 percent of donations collected going to the American Red Cross).

Members of the Milton and surrounding communities are asked to bring their donation items to Bell Memorial Park this Saturday, driving through the park roundabout and stopping at the maintenance building gate on the other side of the roundabout.

Volunteers will be on-hand to meet each car at the gate and assist with unloading. The city asks that no cars enter the gate to the maintenance area. After dropping off donation items, cars may then circle out of the parking lot returning to the front entrance/exit.

Cregge notes all of the city's sports program providers -- Halftime Sports, North Georgia Recreation, Eagle Stix Lacrosse, Hopewell Youth Baseball, and the Milton Steelers -- were eager to support the team and city in their efforts. Each program will be assisting with getting the word out and driving donations from their program participants.

With news that Hurricane Irma is expected to bear down on most of Georgia early next week, city of Milton spokesperson Shannon Ferguson said officials will consider organizing a separate event in response to the storm when they are aware of what the needs are.
