Elsada Miriam Duncan, affectionately known as "Granny," passed away Saturday, March 16 and was one of Milton's oldest living residents.

MILTON, GA -- Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood announced sad news on Tuesday.
"It is with a heavy heart that I share with the Milton community the passing of Elsada Miriam Duncan, affectionately known as "Granny" or "Ms. Elsie" by family, friends, loved ones and fellow Milton neighbors," Lockwood said in a special message.
Granny passed away Saturday, March 16 and was one of Milton's oldest living residents. The Milton City Council presented Granny with a proclamation in honor of her 110th birthday in January 2018.

As mayor, Lockwood said he had the privilege of celebrating centennial birthdays with three Milton seniors.
"I can remember dancing with Granny as her family and friends gathered to celebrate her turning 100," he said. "When her family reached out in 2018 about her upcoming birthday, it was hard to believe 10 years had passed, and amazing to think that here we were with Ms. Elsie celebrating another decade of her life. During those 10 years, Granny even beat breast cancer at 104 years old!"

Local media including the AJC and 11Alive shared her story as part of the city's proclamation honoring her on her 110th birthday, Lockwood said. She leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a rich life filled with so many accomplishments.
"I will be forever grateful that I had the opportunity to celebrate these milestone birthdays with such a special resident," Lockwood said. "I will leave you with what was her most recent birthday message: 'We must all show love to each other and be kind to each other.' I couldn't agree more Granny."
"On behalf of the Milton City Council and our entire city staff, I'm sending our deepest sympathies to the family during this difficult time," Lockwood said. "Thank you for sharing Granny with us and the Milton community!"
