Milton Eagle Stix Lacrosse Program Exceeds National Averages

The Eagle Stix lacrosse players have beat the odds to compete at the collegiate level.

ALPHARETTA-MILTON, GA - From the City of Milton: Beating the odds and going on to play at the college level is something that many high school athletes dream of, but the reality is only one in 14 players go on to play at the college level and even fewer compete at the Division 1 (D1) level. That is unless you are an athlete who participated in Milton's Eagle Stix girls' lacrosse program.

Since 2012, 84 former Eagle Stix players have gone on to play college lacrosse with many competing at D1 schools locally and across the country. An additional 38 girls currently playing in high school are committed to play in college (33 at the D1 level).

In 2017 alone, 23 players total from the Eagle Stix elite program received D1 scholarships with two of those seniors playing for nationally-ranked programs at Notre Dame and Ohio State University.

"Considering our average Eagle Stix roster is 22 players, this means that more than 36% of our 2017 players received D1 scholarships, compared to the 3.8% of female US high school lacrosse players competing at NCAA I schools that year," said Milton Parks and Recreation Board Member Joey Costanzo who serves as the liaison to Milton's lacrosse program providers. "These are life changing numbers for these kids."

According to Eagle Stix Program Director Tim Godby, another 18 Eagle Stix players committed to colleges during 2018 and the current spring season has more than 225 players, ages 5-14 years, registered to play.

"With each new season, I continue to be impressed by the level of commitment by these athletes and the dedication of their coaches," said Godby.

The City of Milton Parks and Recreation Department hosts a "wall of fame" at its Bell Memorial Park. The wall is designed to recognize Milton residents who excelled in local youth sports and then advanced to compete at the collegiate and often times professional level.

"I have no doubt that our future wall of fame nominees will include participants from our Eagle Stix lacrosse program," said Parks and Recreation Director Jim Cregge. "The amount of talent we've seen over the years with this program is a real testament to our program partner and their strong leadership."
