Milton Fire, Police Help Deliver Baby

Officers and firefighters from the Milton Police and Fire departments last week assisted in the delivery of a baby along Arnold Mill Road.

Last week, Milton police and fire helped deliver a baby on Arnold Mill Road after the little girl came earlier than expected.

Fire Chief Robert Edgar said the Torres family was headed to North Fulton Regional Hospital for the birth of little Gavriella when she decided she simply couldn’t wait any longer.

“The family pulled over and the mother, Mary, lay in the grass in front of Sweet Apple Animal Hospital,” he said. “Police officers Capt. S. McCarty and J. Richardson held a blanket to shield her from passing cars while firefighters from Engine 41 delivered the baby.”

Those firefighters, Tim Farnell, Dana Braden and Brian Murtaugh, are trained in medical response and were able to safely bring 8 pound, 6 ounce, 18.5-inch Gavriella into the world.

Everyone then rode in an ambulance to North Fulton Regional Hospital, where the family remains.
