Milton High Student Named U.S. Presidential Scholar

Meghana R. Nallajerla is one of two Georgia students who were named to the list, which includes 141 students across the country.

A Milton High School student is one of two in Georgia who were named to the 50th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.

Meghana R. Nallajerla and Duluth resident Sathvik R. Namburar, who attends Woodward Academy, both were among 141 students across the country who were named to the list, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars chooses scholars "based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to high ideals," the federal agency said in a news release.

Since its creation in 1964, the program has honored more than 6,500 students with the prestigious award given to honorees during an annual ceremony in the District of Columbia.

The 2014 ceremony will be held on June 22, and each honoree will receive a Presidential Scholar medallion.
