Sandy Springs police responded just after 4 p.m. July 23, 2015, to a call of a shooting in the Azalea Park apartment complex on Cedar Run, which sits off Dunwoody Place in the northern part of the city.

The agency previously told Patch that Ovalle was found dead with at least one gunshot wound to his body on a sidewalk.

After following up on leads and interviews, detectives were able to identify a person of interest in the case. A composite sketch of the suspect was released a day after the shooting, but Chavez was able to evade capture for several months.

Police have yet to release a motive in the fatal shooting. Return to Patch for updates.
