Northwestern Student Commended For Bravery During Fire
Jaden Martin-Burgess, 7th grader at Northwestern Middle, was honored at a recent City Council Meeting for saving his siblings during a fire.
MILTON, GA -- A seventh-grader at Northwestern Middle School is being hailed a hero after his quick thinking saved his younger siblings' lives. Jaden Martin-Burgess was honored at the March 5 Milton City Council meeting for his bravery and real-life application of his fire safety training, the city said.
Martin-Burgess and his class recently received fire safety training from Capt. Johnny Gomez of the Milton Fire Rescue Department. Just a few days following the training, the oven in Martin-Burgess' home was turned on to preheat, not knowing that a cardboard pizza box was in the oven, which caught fire.
Martin-Burgess, who was napping with his 6-month-old brother on his chest, woke up to see the flames. He went upstairs to get his 3-year-old brother, led them outside to safety, then called 911 while his mom attempted to put the fire out.
Thanks to Martin-Burgess' quick thinking, heroic actions and his real-life application of his fire safety training, the entire family was safe, the Fire Department said.
