MILTON, GA -- A north Fulton County student was bitten by a snake during recess at a local elementary school.
The student at Crabapple Crossing Elementary School was bitten by the reptile while outside on the playground, Principal Dr. Rachel Williams said in a message sent Friday to parents.
Susan Hale, spokesperson with the Fulton County Schools, said the system doesn't know what kind of snake made its presence known "since the student doesn't recall seeing the snake."

Williams said the student, a second-grader, was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, and the child's were notified of the incident.
Additionally, the school system's maintenance team was called, and the crew dispersed snake repellent to thwart any future attacks, Williams added.

Williams also asked staff and teachers to remind students not to play in wooded areas, and for educators to be vigilant in their supervision of pupils.
The principal also said there are no plans to change outdoor Field Day activities due to last week's incident.
Williams, who was off campus at the time of the incident, also thanked the staff for its "professionalism" and Northwestern Middle School Assistant Principal Kevin Locke for his ability to lend a hand to the school.
"Once again, this is proof of our strong school collaboration," she said. "We are a team in Milton and your children's safety is always at the forefront of our decisions."
