YMCA To Honor Alpharetta Family Volunteer, Teen Leader

The Alpharetta Volunteer and Teen Leader of the Year will be honored at the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's Celebration of Community Champions.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Volunteers and teen leaders from the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA will be recognized for their contributions to the community on Feb. 10 during the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's Celebration of Community Champions.

David Healy implements and leads the outdoor garden committee, engaging Y members and community garden experts in making the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA garden multi-functional. This is why he's been named a Volunteer of the Year.

“David empowers healthy living through his engagement and service to others," Y staff member Kim Nelson said. "David is the example of a Y volunteer. He is an active member, Coach Approach graduate, donor and volunteer. He can be found greeting members at events, prepping art projects at Healthy Kids Day, making sandwiches at the MLK Family Service Project, donating school supplies and so much more. David’s gift of time and talent inspires others to become involved and serve our community.”

The garden showcases native plants, seasonal produce and herbs year-round. In addition, Healy has shared his personal daylily collection, providing flowers around the Y. He is also a founding member of the Togetherhood Committee.

“Several doctors told mt the best thing I can do for my health is exercise," Healy said. "In 2011, I was going through very tough period in my life and the Y kept me centered and focused. I joined the Y shortly after my wife Diana’s sudden death and it gave me a way to deal with my grief by socializing with friends. Exercising at the YMCA and volunteering gave me a sense of purpose.”

Julianna Christine Trimboli’s first connection with the Y was playing soccer at the age of five in London, England. After moving to Georgia, she joined the Y’s Teen Leaders program at the age of 13. She is currently president of the YMCA Teen Leaders Club and attended the Global Service Leaders Trip to the Republic of Georgia in 2018.

She has been named a Teen Leader of the Year.

“Julianna grew the Teen Leaders program from four to 25 during her tenure as vice president last year and president this year," Y Staff Member Skot Wittes said. "She has given so much of her time and effort to advance and grow the club."

Trimboli also attended the Y175 London Conference with the YMCA in 2019. She plans to major in international relations or economics in college.

“To me, the Y is different from other organizations," Trimboli said. "The Y helps young people grow, develop and stay healthy. The Y also encourages the same young people to help others. I think it is important to make time to be involved with the Y because it’s important to help others, and spend time doing what you can to improve the world for other people.”

Ambassador Andrew Young and Dr. Walter Young will be honored during the event on Feb. 10 with the Bransby Christian Leadership Award. Additional winners include the following:

  • Corporate Partner of the Year: Kaiser Permanente
