• Americus City Council votes to reduce funding to OneSumter and axe lobbyist (americustimesrecorder.com) — Americus residents should know the City Council has voted to end funding for OneSumter’s lobbyist and cut the group’s annual city support to $5,000 while shaping the 2026 budget. Council members questioned whether the lobbyist effectively represented Americus on key state issues, including a surprise bill to study merging city and county governments. 
• Detention officer arrested for smuggling contraband (americustimesrecorder.com) — A Sumter County Sheriff’s Office detention officer has been arrested after an internal investigation found he allegedly smuggled phones and cigarettes into the jail for profit, raising safety concerns for Americus-area residents. Sheriff Eric Bryant says contraband threatens staff and inmates, and warns more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
• Tops' Easterlin named to CUSA All-Freshman Team (bgdailynews.com) — An Americus native, golfer Will Easterlin, has been named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team after leading Western Kentucky in two tournaments this season. His strong showings, including a 16th-place finish and multiple low rounds, highlight a standout first year on the college golf stage.
