UGA Ranked Among Best Teaching Master's Degrees

Georgia's College of Education came it at No. 34 on a list of the nation's Top 50 programs.

ATHENS, GA -- The University of Georgia's master's program for teachers was listed among the best in the nation in a newly released ranking.

Georgia came in at No. 34 in a Top 50 ranking from College Choice, a website that provides college information for students and their families.

"For teachers already working, earning a Master's degree is a good path to increased earning potential. It is also a key step toward career advancement and establishing oneself as a highly qualified expert," Katie Edmondson, an associate editor with College Choice, said in a news release.

"Aspiring educators who pursue either a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or a Master's in Education (MEd) often do so to advance not only their career, but their own knowledge and mastery of the teaching profession itself."

The College Choice 2016 rankings of the best teaching master's programs took into account factors including academic ranking, acceptance rate, tuition per-year (based only on out-of-state tuition), and average graduate pay.

Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, Maryland, topped the rankings at No. 1, followed by Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

According to College Choice's survey, UGA offers a Master of Art in Teaching in elementary, secondary and special education.

The College of Education enrolls 1,650 students and has a 3.1 to 1 student/faculty ratio. Tuition for the University of Georgia's College of Education is $23,388 per year, according to the ranking.
