UGA football player Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in the Athens crash near Barnett Shoals Road.

Police have previously said LeCroy was driving the 2021 Ford Expedition that left the roadway, splitting two power poles in half after hitting them and eventually landing against a nearby apartment building.

Willock was seated behind LeCroy and was ejected from the SUV, police said. LeCroy died at the hospital and Willock died at the scene.

"Out of respect from the families involved, we have refrained from making any public statements up to this point regarding the circumstances of the tragic accident that claimed two lives and injured two members of our campus community," J. Reid Parker, director of athletics, said in a statement.

"However, we want the public to know that the athletic department is conducting a thorough review, in coordination with legal counsel, to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event."

Parker said the group was not involved in duties from the athletic department at the time of the crash.

UGA celebrated the Georgia Bulldogs football championship victory hours prior to the wreck.
