Vigil Held For Jefferson Teen Shot, Killed In Gwinnett: Report

Elijah Dewitt's mother told Fox 5 Atlanta he was on a date the night he was killed near Sugarloaf Mills Mall.

JEFFERSON, GA — A candlelight vigil was held Sunday for Elijah Dewitt, a 17-year-old who was shot and killed on Oct. 5 in the Sugarloaf Mills Mall parking lot, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

The outlet reported around 100 family members and friends gathered for the vigil to remember Dewitt, who was a Jefferson High School football player.

His mom told Fox 5 that he was on a date with his girlfriend the night of a botched robbery attempt.

Two suspects were identified Friday in connection with the shooting.

Kemare Bryan, 18, and Chandler Richardson, 19, were scheduled Monday to be extradited to the Gwinnett County Jail on charges of felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of felonies, Gwinnett police said.

Police previously said the suspects were seemingly known to Dewitt.

Fox 5 reported visitation for Dewitt is held 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, 267 Mahaffey St., in Jefferson. The funeral will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson High arena, 575 Washington St.
