2 Drivers Shot Miles Apart In Atlanta

Police say the shootings happened about two hours apart and both victims said their shooter was in a silver SUV.

ATLANTA, GA — Two drivers in Atlanta were shot early Thursday morning just miles apart. Police say the shootings appear to have been random, but are investigating whether they were done by the same person.

The first shooting happened at about 12:15 a.m. just east of the Holmes Drive exit on Interstate 20, according to the Atlanta Police Department. The driver said a silver SUV pulled up next to him and shot at him several times, eventually hitting him.

Just over two hours later, and about four miles away, another driver lost control and crashed into several other vehicles after being shot in the neck, police said. That happened on Fulton Street east of McDaniel Street at about 2:37 a.m.

That driver, too, described a silver SUV pulling up next to him and shooting at him several times. His car ended up on its side after hitting the other vehicles.

Both drivers were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and both were in stable condition Thursday morning, according to police.

A police spokesman said that the victims do not know each other.

"Our investigators are working to explore all possible leads and make any possible connections," said APD Officer Donald Hannah.

On Thursay, police were investigating whether the shootings were related to a 4 a.m. shooting in DeKalb County, in which a man was killed with his wife and children in the car with him.

"Clearly, those responsible for these crimes have shown a complete disregard for human life," Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields said Thursday. "The Atlanta Police Department is working closely with DeKalb County and other law enforcement agencies to find those responsible for these acts, and acting to get these dangerous criminals off of the street immediately.

"Please be assured the department is treating these incidents seriously and are of the highest priority to bring to an end."
