HABERSHAM COUNTY, GA — Singer Aaron Carter, younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, was arrested in Northern Georgia Saturday night for drunken driving and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana and paraphernalia, authorities say. The performer's spokesman say police targeted the singer because of his fame, arresting him at a Cornelia, Georgia, Auto Zone after he stopped there because of tire problems.

The Habersham County Sheriff's Office made the arrest of Carter, 29, and his girlfriend. Habersham County Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Floyd Canup told The Associated Press Carter and Madison Parker were arrested July 15. No details about the incident were released.

He was released on bond Sunday morning, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

His representative told Entertainment Tonight Carter has been driving across the Southeast on a promotion and a new tire went out of alignment. While at the Auto Zone requesting help to get his alignment fixed, he was arrested inside by several police officers. The spokesman said, "Aaron holds a medical license for medical marijuana for his long standing anxiety," the TV show says.
