Atlanta Football Star In Critical Condition After Head Injury

Christion Abercrombie suffered a head injury in Saturday's Tennessee State University-Vanderbilt college football game.

A former Atlanta high school football standout suffered a serious head injury Saturday during the Tennessee State-Vanderbilt game. Christion Abercrombie, who now plays for Tennessee State, was injured in the second quarter and, according to the school, remains in critical condition. Abercrombie was a three-star recruit out of Westlake High School in Atlanta.

After the game, Tennessee State issued the following update on Abercrombie's condition:

"Tennessee State football student-athlete Christion Abercrombie remains in critical condition following an injury he sustained during today's Tennessee State-Vanderbilt game at Vanderbilt Stadium. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and remains under observance."

According to the school's website, Abercrombie was ranked the nation's No. 89 outside linebacker by ESPN.com, and the 71st ranked inside linebacker by Scout. During his Westlake career, Abercromine totaled 106 tackles, 55 of them solo, four sacks and four interceptions as a senior. He helped lead the school to a 10-3 record in 2015, and helped the team to a 2014 and 2015 Region 3-AAAAAA championship.

In 2017, Abercrombie debuted at Illinois and played in 11 games, making 11 tackles and six solo tackles.
