Atlanta Voted the Top Place to Spend Memorial Day

Memorial Day is an occasion of special importance to all Americans, as it is a day that allows us to remember all of the men and women who bravely fought to give us the rights and freedoms that we have today.

And what better way is there to spend the long weekend than in the nation’s best city to celebrate the holiday? Treetopia.com just voted Atlanta, GA as the best city in the country to celebrate Memorial Day.

Atlanta is the destination to be this weekend. With numerous opportunities for family fun, sightseeing and nightlife, it’s no surprise that our city was chosen as the number one destination for Memorial Day festivities. While many local bars and restaurants are hosting parties and special discounts, there are four main events that shouldn’t be missed.

Stone Mountain Park honors our troops and their families at Atlanta’s largest four-day Memorial Weekend event. The event includes a state-of-the-art laser light show, an extended fireworks finale and three flame cannons that are sure to impress! The park is open from 10:30 AM to 8 PM this weekend. Active and retired military personnel will receive a free pass and discounts for family members.

Additionally, the Atlanta Jazz Festival in Piedmont Park is celebrating 35 years. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the country’s largest free jazz festivals, and it celebrates jazz legends throughout the month of May. Performers include the Robert Glasper Experiment, Macy Gray, Marquis Hill Blacktet, Freddy Cole and many more. Food and beverage vendors will be onsite as well.

If you prefer to be on the beach this weekend Atlanta also has a variety of beach parties to offer. LanierWorld is hosting a Memorial Day celebration that allows you to rock out on Lake Lanier with live music and beach parties all weekend. The celebration also includes delicious food and a spectacular fireworks display on Sunday.

Zoo Atlanta is also hosting their annual event, Brew at the Zoo. Brew at the Zoo includes 70 selections of brews and a limited selection of wine, all within an exotic outdoor destination that’s home to more than 1,000 animals from around the world.
