The average person changes jobs between 10 to 15 times during their lifetime. As industries change and evolve, workers seek to enhance their skills, advance their careers and transition into new roles. At the biannual Open House held at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education, area residents explored their options for career advancement and development.
For Jeanna Torregano the Open House came at an opportune time. Having worked in nonprofit, corporate, sales and even running her own business for some time, she began to consider professional education to enhance her current abilities and transition into a new role.
“I am seeking a project management certification,” Torregano said. “I am excited about going back into corporate and obtaining this certification [for] my career.”

Like Torregano, more than 600 residents attend the free event to learn more about the professional certificate programs offered at the college. With interactive information sessions, job-seeking resources and resume consultations, the event provided attendees with the tools needed to make informed decisions about their professional future.
“Education is a lifelong pursuit,” said College of Continuing and Professional Education Interim Dean Tim Blumentritt, Ph.D. “The more you learn about the latest developments, skills and new technologies in your field, the more sought-after you become in the job market.”

For incoming KSU Freshman Astrid Garavis, obtaining her bachelor’s degree is only the beginning of her educational path. The 18-year is considering the Medical Assisting certificate offered at the college.
“My major is biology,” Garavis said. “I was interested in the program to get a head start on my career goals – eventually becoming a doctor.”
Whether you are finishing high school, earning your college degree or a working professional, education can elevate your professional position. The College of Continuing and Professional Education offers professional certificate, leisure and online programs to help individuals take their career to the next level.
“People can return to school at any age,” Blumentritt said. “We’re here to help individuals as they take the next step in their journey – from first-time graduates to working professionals.”
For anyone looking to learn new skills or brush up on old ones, the next Open House at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education is being planned for January 2019. For more information, visit ccpe.kennesaw.edu, call 470-578-6765 or email ccpe@kennesaw.edu
