Carjacker Shot In Shootout With ATL Police: GBI
The suspect was in critical condition after he started speeding toward the police officer, according to investigators.

ATLANTA, GA — A shootout with an Atlanta Police officer left a man accused of carjacking a vehicle in East Point in critical condition Tuesday afternoon, investigators say.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, East Point police had been investigating a carjacking that happened earlier in the day. At about 4:45 p.m., an Atlanta Police officer found the missing vehicle in an apartment complex on Old Hapeville Road.
The vehicle, which the GBI did not describe, was being driven in the parking lot and was occupied by two men. When the officer tried to make a stop, the passenger got out and started shooting at him.

White's passenger got away and had not been identified as of Wednesday morning. The officer was not injured in the shootout.
As is routine in Georgia, the GBI will investigate the officer-involved shooting. When its investigation is done, the agency will turn its findings over to the Fulton County District Attorney's office for review.
