Delta Employee Makes Elmo Mask For Passenger With Special Needs

A Delta employee wanted to help a passenger with special needs feel comfortable flying. She made him an Elmo face mask.

ATLANTA, GA — A Delta Air Lines employee went above and beyond recently to help a child with special needs. Nervous about wearing a mask on an upcoming flight, the employee shared mask design options with the father that might remove some of the fear.

In April, the airline announced that passengers would be required to wear masks on Delta flights. The masks must be worn at check-in, in gate areas, Sky Clubs, on jet bridges and onboard the plane, except during meal service.

The Atlanta-based airline shared details on its Facebook page.

“She helped me understand that there are options in regard to mask design, and she has actually made some for her family. I asked if she had ever seen any with Elmo on them as he is my son’s favorite. She wasn’t sure, but gave me some guidance on where to look.”

Sarah wanted to do more and ended up surprising the family with a package that included a note and handmade Elmo masks.

“I was floored that she 1) actually made and sent them to us and 2) remembered my son’s name and how important Elmo was to him.”
