Food Drives, Camps, And More, All Happening This Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving 2019, there are several events for the entire family happening across metro Atlanta.

ATLANTA, GA — Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away. This 2019, there are several things for people and families in metro Atlanta to do. Patch has rounded up a list of events, turkey and canned food drives, and even places for children to go over Thanksgiving break.

Cutco Kitchen Atlanta is offering a free cooking class Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at 3330 Piedmont Road Northeast Atlanta. A local chef will lead the class, demonstrating how to prepare an Apple Red Pepper Slaw using Cutco's 7" Santoku.

Faith and Film November Gathering will discuss the film “One Last Thing” at the Corner Cup Coffee, 2380 Main Street in Tucker. The event will be from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21.

Angel Wings for the Missing Trafficked Homeless presents Friendsgiving Day, Sat. Nov. 23, noon to 6 p.m. The organization has partnered with different entertainers, nonprofits, businesses, churches, and more to put on a special event for the community. There will be health screenings, food, clothing donation and entertainment. They’re seeking food and clothes donations, and looking for volunteers. Questions can be directed at 800-427-5512.

The Bright Ring Foundation will host a community art show and canned food drive Saturday, Nov. 23 from 6-10 p.m. at the Blank Canvas Atl, 321 Nelson Street Southwest, Atlanta. It’s a fundraiser to help less fortunate families. The foundation has partnered with Atlanta Community Food Bank. It’s free admission with 3 canned goods. The dinner plates will be sold for $10.

Macy’s at Lenox Square, 3393 Peachtree Road N.E. will host “Turn the Tables: Thanksgiving Tablescaping on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 3-5 p.m. The free event will show attendees how to create a personalized set of napkin rings and place cards. Register through Eventbrite.

Monticello Bistro’s Third Annual Turkey Giveaway is Sunday, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Marietta at 2000 Powers Ferry Rd. Second Floor. More than 500 turkeys will be given away. To receive a complimentary turkey, people must register online.

Gobble Gobble Thanksgiving Day Ride will take place in Smyrna on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 8-9 a.m. at 4585 South Cobb Drive Southeast. Attendees will participate in a 45 minute cardio workout, riding to some of the hottest music. Beginner to intermediate riders are welcome. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.

G.I.F.T.S. After School Program at the Tracey Wyatt Recreation Center will offer a fall camp for children from Monday, November 25 to Wednesday, November 27 from 7am-7pm. The cost is $60, which includes two off- site field trips and one on site Thanksgiving theme activity. Two meals and one snack a day will be provided. To reserve the spot, it’s a $20 deposit and can be paid through Eventbrite. Registration closes Saturday, Nov. 23.

A Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) camp will be offered for students over Thanksgiving break from Monday, Nov. 25 to Wednesday Nov. 27. Students will participate in a variety of fun, engaging, educational activities. There will be hands on, interactive STEM related projects that involve robotics, coding and more. Snacks will be provided three times a day. The camp will be held at Greater Turner Chapel AME Church, 4650 Cascade Road in Atlanta. The camp is $75. Register through Eventbrite.

Breakout Games in Buckhead will be open Thanksgiving day from 5-11 p.m. Reservations for the escape room can be made through Eventbrite.
