FreakNik Changes Event Location Due To 'Invalid' Contract

FreakNik World, Atlanta's three-day music festival, returns in June at a new location.

ATLANTA, GA — FreakNik World will return this summer in Atlanta. Organizers have secured a new location after publicizing earlier the Cascade Driving Range in southwest Atlanta.

The three-day music festival, originally named FreakNik, will run from June 19-21 at Morris Brown College.

“FreakNik is Atlanta’s Black History & we’re Bringing it back to the AUC at Morris Brown College as we both Unite in our Restoration Efforts!” it says on the main page of the website.

Atlanta-based promoter Carlos Neal tells WSB that there will be a slight increase in parking fees and ticket prices (tickets are currently on sale for $49.99 for a three-day general admission pass and $164.99 for three-day VIP via www.freaknikfest.com). Roads around the college will be closed that weekend to motorists.

More than 40 artists will perform. Initially, the event was scheduled to be held at the Cascade Driving Range. Due to an invalid contract, organizers had to quickly secure a new location, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The admission age has been raised to 25. Anyone under must be escorted by someone 25 or older.

Last year, more than 18,000 people attended. The original Freaknik was held every summer, for several years in Atlanta before it discontinued. In 2010, then-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed banned any related activities from taking place within the city. It was brought back in 2019 by Neal, through his company After 9 Partners. It's promoted as more of a family-friendly function.
