Fulton DA Seeks Delay In Gang Trial Against Rappers Young Thug, Gunna
Rappers Young Thug and Gunna are being accused of being members of a street gang and are accused of violating the RICO Act.
ATLANTA, GA — Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed a motion for continuance Thursday in the gang trial against rappers Young Thug and Gunna and Young Slime Life.
Prosecution has said in the past Young Slime Life is a criminal street gang.
Willis requested the trial be moved from Jan. 9, 2023, to March 27, 2023, according to the motion.

She said in the motion that 25 of the 28 defendants are in custody, and that eight of the defendants in custody lack counsel. The extra time will allow for those defendants to obtain representation, she said.
According to the motion, should the case go to trial as currently scheduled, the eight defendants "may be forced to trial with 'ill-prepared appointed counsel.'"

Additionally, an attorney for a ninth defendant has filed a motion to withdraw, according to Willis' motion.
All of the defendants in custody are being accused of being members of Young Slime Life and are facing Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act charges in connection with the case.
Willis requests in her motion the defendants all be tried together.
Attorneys for several of the defendants previously filed motions for speedy trials, setting the court date in January.
Willis said moving the date to late March would protect the defendants' speedy trial rights while giving them more time to acquire counsel.
11Alive reported rappers Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, and Gunna, whose real name is Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, have been held in jail without bond since May.
The outlet reported their attorneys have tried several times to get them released on bond.
