Georgia Vs Alabama: National Championship Tickets Aren't Cheap

If you're hoping to see the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, be prepared to pay top dollar.

ATLANTA, GA — Scoring a ticket to college football's National Championship Game is no easy task in the best of times. When home team Georgia is facing neighboring Alabama for the game's top prize? Forget about it.

Hosting two college football juggernauts with fans within driving distance has driven up the price on secondary-market tickets for the long sold-out game, which kicks off at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8.

On Tuesday afternoon, the cheapest tickets for the game on StubHub were going for $2,075 and there were only seven left at that price. Lots were listed in the $2,100-2,300 range and they went all the way up to $94,000 for a 22-person suite for the game.

The matchup will mark the first time in the short history of college football's playoff that two teams from the same conference will meet in the title game. The last time it happened under the Bowl Championship was also an all-SEC tilt, between Alabama and LSU in 2011.

Georgia (13-1) will compete for its first National Championship since 1980 after defeating Oklahoma 54-48 in a wild and historic Rose Bowl on Monday. The Bulldogs set a Rose Bowl record by overcoming a 31-14 first half deficit to win in double-overtime — marking the first overtime periods in Rose Bowl history.

Alabama (12-1), meanwhile, heads into the game having soundly defeated No. 1 Clemson, 24-6, in the Sugar Bowl.

Monday's game will be the second championship game of the season for Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They defeated Auburn 28-7 in the SEC Championship on Dec. 2.

If you're lucky enough to have a ticket, or just want to be in the madness outside the big game, Mercedes-Benz Stadium has plenty going on on the days leading up to the game and game day itself.

Centennial Park will feature live musical performances, nightly fireworks, ESPN broadcasts and more starting Saturday.

Performing Saturday will be Jason Derulo, Charlie Puth and Lizzo. The Chainsmokers will headline Sunday night, with opening acts Bebe Rexha and Spencer Ludwig. On game day, Darius Rucker, formerly of Hootie and the Blowfish, will headline pre-game performances, along with opening act Brett Young.

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and at noon on Monday.

At 10 a.m., on Monday the Championship Tailgate Plaza opens at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with activities and entertainment for fans.
