Kroger Installs Plexiglass Barriers, Hires More: GA Coronavirus

Plexiglass barriers have been installed at registers in Kroger, along with more hired for grocery pickup.

ATLANTA, GA — As a way to protect both shoppers and cashiers from the risk of the coronavirus, Kroger has installed plexiglass barriers at registers in all stores throughout the Atlanta division, which includes Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina.

The Division has also hired more than 3,166 associates, 500 of which have been specifically hired for Kroger’s increasingly popular Grocery Pick-Up service.

“We are continuing to hire new associates to ensure customers will have access to the food and supplies they need to weather the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to provide job opportunities to those individuals who have lost jobs in hard-hit industries, said Felix Turner, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division.

“Many of these new associates are being deployed in service areas such as Grocery Pick-Up, which will give more customers access to this high-demand service.”

Kroger is now offering free-pick up nationwide.

For associates, Kroger is in the process of procuring safety masks and providing safety guidance from the CDC for wearing masks. Associates may also wear their own mask, “official face masks” or they may wear homemade cloth masks per the CDC and White House guidance. N-95 respirator masks and dust masks are not recommended.

Additionally, Kroger will begin implementing new physical distancing measures to help enhance customer and associate safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting Tuesday, April 7, Kroger stores will limit the number of customers to 50% of building code capacity to further support physical distancing in stores.

“These new physical distancing measures are a positive step that will help customers maintain appropriate social distancing and protect associates from over-crowding,” said Turner.
