KSU’s CCPE Holds Winter Graduation

More than 100 students from KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education graduated on Dec. 13 in a ceremony where friends and family were present to share in their success. The college hosts graduation in June and December of each year, honoring adult learners who have completed professional certificate programs ranging from 4 weeks to 14 months long. Some of the offerings include Medical Assisting, Human Resources, Payroll and Project Management.

Interim Dean Tim Blumentritt, Ph.D., addressed the graduates about the magnitude of what they have accomplished, noting they are the future of education and professional certificates are part of the rigorous academic institution at KSU.

“The world is changing too fast for one educational experience to last a lifetime,” Blumentritt said. “The No. 1 value of what you’ve learned is how it affects other people. Turn it into something meaningful for yourself and others.”

He encouraged the newly minted professional-certificate holders to spread the wealth of knowledge they gained. “Be confident that the education you received trained you very well,” Blumentritt said. “It will open doors for you. Be confident enough to walk through them.”

Phlebotomy graduate Bineta Ndoye said the program prepared her for the real world. She added KSU is a great school and affordable.

“The teachers are professional and helpful to make sure you pass the class,” she said. “Their hands-on training is very good.”

Paralegal graduate Marissa Wood said she wanted to learn more about the profession and KSU was the place for her. She also secured a job at a local law firm.

“I’ve learned so much through the instructors and enjoyed having an extensive study of various types of law,” she said. “I hope to continue to use the skills I’ve learned in my new position.”

In addition to their new credentials, the December graduates were also introduced to Handshake, an all-in-one career management system, which includes a job board, resource library, and communication system.

For those interested in opportunities for growth and development, the college will host a free Open House January 10, 2019. The biannual event features interactive information sessions exploring professional certificate programs offered at the college.
