Man Shot Carrying BB Gun Near School Identified
A police officer with the Atlanta Public Schools system fired a single shot at the man Tuesday morning.

ATLANTA, GA — Authorities have identified a man who was shot by a police officer Tuesday after he approached an Atlanta school with what turned out to be a realistic-looking BB gun.
D’Tavius L’Quon Patterson, 20, approached Forrest Hills Academy, at 2930 Forrest Hills Dr., at about 9:15 a.m., according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He left school property and started walking down Forrest Hills Drive toward Cleveland Avenue, when two officers with Atlanta Public Schools Police Department approached him.
One of the officers fired a shot at the man, who was still holding the handgun, the GBI said. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition Tuesday.
No officers were injured in the shooting. All students and staff remained safe and school operations were not disrupted, according to the GBI.
