More Rainfall Predicted For Metro Atlanta After Flooding

Showers are forecast for the metro through Sunday, the weather service predicted Friday morning.

ATLANTA, GA — A day after storms drenched and flooded parts of Atlanta, weather officials reported Friday additional showers are possible through the weekend.

The rain Thursday flooded roads near Clark Atlanta University and other parts of the city. According to Clark Atlanta, some of its residence halls were flooded due to the heavy rainfall.

"CAU Public Safety, Student Affairs and Facilities Management quickly responded to the incidents to support students during the inclement weather," university officials said in a statement posted to Facebook.

Water was removed, and repairs were assessed. Students were relocated to new housing, the university said.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the Georgia Aquarium had to evacuate due to flooding.

A day later, the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office reported a 40 percent chance for showers during the day hours Friday and a 2o percent chance Friday night.

The rain is forecast to continue through Sunday ahead of a sunny Monday.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, the weather service reported the following forecast:

Today: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. East wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Tonight: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Southeast wind 5-10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Saturday night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 5-10 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Sunday night: A slight chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 60. Chance of precipitation is 10 percent.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81.

Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 82.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
