Morehouse Student Shot During Attempted Carjacking
It's the latest in a series of violent incidents near the SW Atlanta University Center complex.

ATLANTA, GA -- A Morehouse student was shot during an attempted carjacking Sunday afternoon, the latest in a series of violent incidents in and around the SW Atlanta University Center complex. Police said the student had stopped at a Shell gas station on Lee Street around 3:30 pm and gone inside when someone tried to steal his car. The victim came out of the store and confronted the suspect, who then got into a getaway car. Another suspect in that vehicle then shot the student several times.
Earlier this month, a Lyft driver was robbed of his wallet and car keys after he dropped off a passenger near the Atlanta University Center on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. The victim, Imani Dawson, told police he had parked on Cunningham Place and stepped out of his car to smoke a cigarette about 2:30 am when a burgundy sedan pulled up and three men jumped out, one brandishing a gun and another a crowbar.
In September, a Morehouse College student was carjacked when he was leaving a campus library shortly before 4 am and drove to his off-campus apartment on Founders Drive. That's when a man approached him soliciting drugs. The student refused when the suspect pulled a gun and told the victim to get out of the car. The suspect then told the victim to empty his pockets, and then stole his car.
