Multiple Injuries In Atlanta School Bus Crash

A woman was trapped in her vehicle and major traffic jams resulted from the downtown wreck, which happened Wednesday morning.

ATLANTA, GA — Several people were injured and one woman had to be pried out of her vehicle Wednesday morning in a crash involving a school bus in downtown Atlanta.

The crash happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Northside Drive and Jett Street. That's about halfway between the Georgia Aquarium and Georgia Tech.

According to Atlanta Fire & Rescue, several vehicles were involved in the crash and several people were hurt. There were not students on the school bus at the time of the crash, the fire department said.

The southbound lanes of Northside Drive remained blocked Wednesday morning as crews responded to the wreck and worked to get an injured woman out of her vehicle, which appeared from fire department photos to have sustained heavy damage to its front end.

She was finally freed shortly before 10 a.m. and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, the fire department said. No details were immediately available Wednesday morning to the extent of the injuries in the crash.

There were major traffic delays in the area. In addition to southbound lanes being blocked, only one northbound lane was open on Northside Drive.
