'Reason my son is alive': Atlanta mother praises officer shot during crisis (fox5atlanta.com) — A southwest Atlanta mother is crediting an Atlanta police officer's compassion with saving her mentally ill son's life after a shooting inside their home wounded the officer and another woman. Her son, who has a long history of serious mental health issues, is now in Fulton County Jail as she pushes for him to be moved to a hospital and urges other Atlanta families to watch for crisis warning signs.
   

2. Metro Atlanta school community comes together to help earthquake victims in Colombia (wsbradio.com) — A Decatur City Schools community in metro Atlanta quickly rallied to send more than 800 N95 masks to Colombians recovering from a powerful August 10 earthquake. Led by Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary Spanish teacher Lina Panuela, whose family lives in Cali, the rapid-response drive showed how local students and neighbors can directly support international disaster relief.
   

3. Creator of custom, souped-up go-kart now selling builds (atlantanewsfirst.com) — An Atlanta go-kart enthusiast is turning his gas-saving custom builds into a small business, selling souped-up kids' vehicles that can hit about 20 mph. He's drawing interest from locals frustrated with Atlanta's rising gas prices, while warning buyers to understand street-legal rules and ride safely in their own neighborhoods.
   

4. 50 dogs rescued in Lamar County animal cruelty raid, 1 arrested (fox5atlanta.com) — Fifty dogs were rescued from a Lamar County property after an animal cruelty raid that also involved the Atlanta Humane Society and state agriculture investigators. One person was arrested, the county shelter briefly closed to manage the influx, and many of the dogs are now with partner groups being evaluated before adoption.
   

5. Court dismisses lawsuit seeking to prevent misuse of seized Fulton County voter data (democracydocket.com) — A federal judge has dismissed, for now, a lawsuit by the NAACP's Georgia and Atlanta branches and other groups seeking to limit how the Trump administration can use Fulton County voter records seized by the FBI. The ruling leaves Atlanta-area voters without new protections yet, but it also doesn't give the government a green light to use the data for purges or immigration enforcement.
