Robber Snatched Purse, Punched Woman At Subway: Police

Atlanta Police have released video of the robbery and are asking the public for help identifying the robber.

ATLANTA, GA — Police in Atlanta are asking for the public's help catching a man who walked into a Subway restaurant, snatched a woman's purse then punched her in the face when she tried to get it back.

Atlanta Police have released video of the strongarm robbery, which happened at about 9:15 p.m. last Friday at the Subway at 3030 Headland Dr. in southwest Atlanta. The video shoes the man walk into the restaurant and approach the counter as if he wanted to place an order.

He walks in front of the woman, who was already waiting to order, grabs her purse and runs out of the store.

According to a police report, the woman ran after him and was able to grab him outside of the restaurant. That's when police say the man turned and punched her in the face. She fell to the sidewalk and the robber ran into a bunch of trees near the East Point city limits.

A group of bystanders tried to chase the robber, but stopped when he reached toward his waistband, suggesting he had a gun.

The robber is described as a black male with a light complexion, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans. He has tattoos on both of his arms and his neck. He was about 5'11-6' tall with an average build and a short haircut and appeared to be in his 20s or 30s, police said.

The victim told police she had about $200 cash in her purse, as well as two bank cards, her driver's license and Social Security card. She declined medical treatment at the scene.
